OUR PHILOSOPHY
We believe that swimming is a sport for life. Truly, we are inspired by the fitness levels and smiles on the faces of our "senior" members and we're thrilled each time a "junior" member joins our team knowing that they've found this activity so early on.
To that end we welcome all adults who aspire to incorporate swimming into their routine.
WHY BE A CHINOOK?
It's WARM - the pool is always the same temperature year-round no matter what Mother Nature is doing.
It's GRAVITY-DEFYING - your body typically wants to float, we just help it while you work muscles you wouldn't normally.
It's SOCIAL - the team environment really helps motivate people to get to the pool. Your lanemates expect you!
It's ACCESSIBLE - best if you can swim at least 25 yards without stopping when you join but from there we can work with you to build your endurance and help you learn better stroke technique to improve your efficiency.
It's AFFORDABLE - required equipment is a swimsuit and goggles. Chinooks fees are $35 or less per month and give you access to 5 workouts per week. Annual USMS membership works out to about $5 per month.
WHAT IS USMS?
Narrated by U.S. Masters Swimming and Olympic gold medalist Rowdy Gaines, this inspiring video captures the essence of what Masters Swimming is all about.
USMS is a national membership-operated nonprofit organization that provides membership benefits to nearly 60,000 Masters swimmers across the country. These benefits include insurance, SWIMMER magazine, sanctioned events, and many others. USMS and its 52 Local Masters Swimming Committees (LMSCs) provide direct support to more than 1,500 Masters Swimming clubs and workout groups. Structure and organization of USMS programs vary and are driven by factors such as pool availability, instructor or coach availability, community support, and finances. The majority of locations offering Masters Swimming programs have coaches on deck. Coaches write workouts, provide instruction and give feedback.
